Transputer Implementation of Parallel Real - Time Systems

The use of transputer family microprocessors in hard real-time control applications is studied. The transputer offers computing performance and architectural features like support of process scheduling and multiprocessing on hardware and language level. Some of these features are efficient for real-time systems, but some contradict with the system performance. Occam process structure is matched with conventional multitasking architectures. Important issues are synchronization of the occam process network with the real-time environment, and the process scheduling mechanism. Limitations in these aspects may be overcome by true multiprocessing. However, balancing of computing and link loads is not automatic, and remains a demanding engineering task.
